Surface Roughness Measurement

Surface roughness measurement (Ra, Rz, Rq, Rt) is a fundamental check to ensure the quality of machined surfaces and their suitability for specific functions (sealing, sliding, mechanical coupling).

The check is carried out using profilometers or portable measuring instruments equipped with a sensitive tip, capable of sliding along the surface and detecting variations in height. The data collected is processed to determine characteristic parameters such as Ra, Rz, Rq, Rt, which quantitatively describe the average roughness and the depth of peaks and valleys.

This non-destructive test is essential to ensure the correct mechanical and tribological functioning of components, the adhesion of coatings and the tightness of joints. It is used in numerous industrial sectors, including precision mechanics, aeronautics, automotive and plant engineering.

PURPOSE OF THE TEST
Measurement of Surface Roughness

To assess the degree of surface finish in microns (μm), based on design specifications or regulations, to ensure that the surface meets the required technical or functional requirements.

WHAT PROBLEM IT SOLVES
Measurement of Surface Roughness

Prevents problems related to surfaces that are too rough or too smooth, which could compromise the assembly, tightness, wear or mechanical performance of the component.

ADVANTAGES OF THE SERVICE
Measurement of Surface Roughness

  • High-precision portable instrumentation
  • Immediate detection of Ra, Rz, Rt, Rq etc. parameters
  • Checking of internal and external surfaces, even on complex parts
  • Documentable and traceable results

RESULTS FOR THE CUSTOMER
Measurement of Surface Roughness

The customer obtains an objective and accurate verification of the surface finish level, in accordance with the requirements of technical drawings, standards or contractual specifications.
