Surface Roughness Measurement
Surface roughness measurement (Ra, Rz, Rq, Rt) is a fundamental check to ensure the quality of machined surfaces and their suitability for specific functions (sealing, sliding, mechanical coupling).
The check is carried out using profilometers or portable measuring instruments equipped with a sensitive tip, capable of sliding along the surface and detecting variations in height. The data collected is processed to determine characteristic parameters such as Ra, Rz, Rq, Rt, which quantitatively describe the average roughness and the depth of peaks and valleys.
This non-destructive test is essential to ensure the correct mechanical and tribological functioning of components, the adhesion of coatings and the tightness of joints. It is used in numerous industrial sectors, including precision mechanics, aeronautics, automotive and plant engineering.
