Measurement of Paint/Coating Thickness

Checking the thickness of paint, zinc plating or other protective and plastic coatings is essential to ensure proper protection against atmospheric agents, corrosion or wear.

The check is generally performed using magnetic, electromagnetic or eddy current instruments, depending on the type of substrate and coating. For non-conductive or multi-layer materials, ultrasonic techniques are used, which allow accurate results to be obtained without damaging the surface.

PURPOSE OF THE TEST
Paint Thickness Measurement

This measurement allows you to verify that the coating – which may be paint, galvanising, anodising, plastic coating or other protective treatment – complies with the thicknesses specified in the relevant technical standards (e.g. ISO 19840, SSPC-PA 2) or customer specifications.

WHAT PROBLEM IT SOLVES
Measurement of Paint/Coating Thickness

Prevents a coating that is too thin from adequately protecting the base material or, conversely, a coating that is too thick from causing adhesion or aesthetic problems.

ADVANTAGES OF THE SERVICE
Paint Thickness Measurement

  • Non-destructive and immediate inspection of fresh or dried paint
  • Calibrated and certified instruments, also for coatings on steel, aluminium and other substrates
  • Applicable to individual pieces or mass production
  • Detailed report for quality certification or final testing

RESULT FOR THE CUSTOMER
Measurement of Paint/Coating Thickness

The customer can be sure that the protective treatment has been carried out correctly, avoiding rework or problems with service life.
